The United Arab Emirates has dispatched humanitarian aid to Colombia as part of a $10 million relief initiative aimed at supporting victims of a devastating earthquake that struck on August 10. The 7.4-magnitude tremor hit near San Jose del Palmar in the Choco province, resulting in over 300 fatalities and thousands of injuries, as well as widespread destruction of homes and buildings.
The emergency aid package from the UAE includes essential supplies such as food, hygiene kits, and cleaning equipment, tailored to address the immediate needs of the affected communities. These supplies were procured from markets in Paraguay and subsequently transported to Colombia for distribution.
UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan directed the relief efforts, having earlier conveyed condolences to the victims and expressed the UAE’s commitment to aiding Colombia’s recovery. This support comes in the wake of Colombia’s declaration of a state of emergency following the natural disaster.
