German President Meets UAE Leader Sheikh Mohamed in Berlin Talks

During a significant state visit to Berlin, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan engaged in high-level discussions with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Thursday. The main agenda was to explore avenues to deepen the UAE-Germany relationship, a bond that has grown over more than fifty years and has seen substantial expansion through a strategic partnership in recent years.

The leaders focused their dialogue on promoting enduring peace in the Middle East and enhancing regional security and stability. Sheikh Mohamed emphasized the shared dedication of the UAE and Germany to broaden cooperation and advance their mutual interests. His visit included an official welcome at Villa Borsig, where he was greeted by senior German officials and signed the guestbook. Additionally, Sheikh Mohamed paid visits to the Bundestag and the Neue Wache war memorial.

As part of his visit, Sheikh Mohamed is expected to hold further discussions with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. These talks aim to delve into potential collaborations, particularly in the economic and development arenas. The two nations are anticipated to ink agreements focusing on artificial intelligence, energy, and investment, marking a forward step in their partnership.

The diplomatic ties between the UAE and Germany were established in 1972, and they signed a strategic partnership in 2004. These developments have fueled a growing economic relationship, with bilateral trade surpassing $15.5 billion in 2025, underscoring the economic significance of their ties.

This visit is noteworthy as it marks the first state visit to Germany by a UAE president, representing a crucial milestone in the continuous expansion of the partnership between the two countries.
