UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and other leaders have extended their condolences to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, following the funeral of his brother, Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Sheikh Ahmed passed away on Monday and was laid to rest at Umm Hurair Cemetery in Dubai after funeral prayers at Zabeel Grand Mosque.
The gathering at the Zabeel Majlis included UAE Rulers such as Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi of Sharjah, Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi of Fujairah, Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla of Umm Al Quwain, and Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi of Ras Al Khaimah. These leaders came together to honor Sheikh Ahmed’s contributions and service to the nation, as he played a significant role in the UAE’s development since its formation.
In remembrance of Sheikh Ahmed, Dubai declared a 10-day mourning period. Known for his involvement in various sectors, Sheikh Ahmed served as the deputy chairman of Dubai Police and chairman of ARM Holding. He was also noted for his influence in the sports community, particularly through the establishment of the Jebel Ali Racecourse in 1990 and his tenure as president of Al Wasl Sports Club.
Sheikh Ahmed’s legacy in Dubai and the UAE is marked by his dedication to both public service and the development of sports infrastructure, highlighting his lasting impact on the community. The mourning period reflects the deep respect and admiration held for him by the Emirati leadership and the citizens of Dubai.
