The United Arab Emirates (UAE) kicked off their 27th Arabian Gulf Cup campaign with a commanding 4-0 victory over Yemen in the Group B opener at Alinma Stadium in Jeddah. The win marks a strong start under new coach Zlatko Dalic, as they aim for their third Gulf Cup title.
Nicolas Gimenez set the tone for the match by scoring the opening goal in the 26th minute. The UAE’s lead doubled shortly after when Yemen defender Nader Sahal inadvertently sent the ball into his own net. Luan Pereira extended the advantage to three goals just before halftime, solidifying the UAE’s dominance.
Gimenez struck again six minutes into the second half, securing a brace and further cementing the UAE’s comfortable lead. Throughout the match, the UAE maintained 61 percent possession and managed 12 shots on goal, while Yemen struggled to threaten, failing to register a single shot on target from their two attempts.
Looking ahead, the UAE will face Bahrain on September 27, followed by a match against Qatar on September 30, as they continue their quest in Group B. The top two teams from the group will advance to the semifinals.
The UAE, having previously won the Gulf Cup in 2007 and 2013, are eager to add another title to their history. This strong opening victory sets a promising foundation for their campaign in this year’s tournament.
