The United Arab Emirates has issued a strong condemnation of the Houthi group’s recent statements threatening Saudi Arabia, particularly the potential imposition of a maritime blockade on the kingdom. In response, the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged the international community to enforce relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions that pertain to Yemen and maritime security in the Red Sea.

The ministry emphasized the importance of two key resolutions in this context. Resolution 2216, which addresses issues related to Yemen, and Resolution 2722, focused on ensuring the protection of navigation rights and the freedom of movement in the Red Sea, were specifically highlighted as critical to maintaining regional stability.

Underscoring the importance of international law, the UAE reiterated that freedom of navigation in international waters is protected under the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. This statement aligns with the UAE’s commitment to upholding established maritime norms and ensuring safe passage in critical waterways.

In addition to its call for international action, the UAE reaffirmed its steadfast solidarity with Saudi Arabia. The ministry expressed its support for any measures the kingdom takes to safeguard its security and stability, signaling a unified stance in the face of regional threats.
