Austin Abrams portrays Jay Gardiner, a young diver grappling with the recent loss of his father, portrayed by Josh Brolin. Driven by the need to find closure, Jay embarks on a dive along California’s Central Coast in search of his father’s remains. However, his quest takes a nightmarish twist when he is swallowed whole by a gigantic sperm whale, leaving him with only about an hour’s worth of oxygen and no apparent escape route.
Amidst the life-threatening situation, Jay must rely on his instincts and the wisdom imparted by his late father to navigate his way to survival. The film’s director, co-writer, and producer, Brian Duffield, shared insights into the production, revealing that the team spent a significant portion of the summer shooting within a meticulously constructed whale set on a sound stage in Studio City, California.
