US-Brokered Deal to End Gaza War in Final Stages, Rubio Says

by admin477351

The United States is on the verge of brokering an end to the two-year conflict in Gaza, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio declaring that a comprehensive deal is “90 per cent done.” The plan, which has received a basic agreement from Hamas, focuses on freeing hostages and establishing a roadmap for the future.

The agreement’s central trade-off involves Hamas releasing all Israeli hostages in its custody. In return, Israel would reposition its military forces to the “yellow line,” their location in mid-August. This exchange is the immediate priority for US negotiators.

Beyond the truce, the framework addresses the critical question of post-war governance. According to Rubio, Hamas has consented “in principle and generalities” to participate in discussions about the future of Gaza, a significant breakthrough for long-term stability.

President Donald Trump has strongly endorsed the plan, labeling it a “great deal for Israel.” He coupled his support with a stern warning to Hamas, stating that a failure to give up control of Gaza would lead to their “complete obliteration.” Trump also confirmed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is supportive of the initiative.

With the majority of the deal settled, the focus has shifted to the operational details. “We are just sort of finalising the logistical piece,” Rubio explained, noting that the seriousness of Hamas’s commitment to peace will be known “very quickly.”
