The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance their cooperation in rail and energy sectors, aiming to boost regional connectivity and economic development. The agreement, signed in Riyadh by Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, UAE Minister of Investment, and Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Energy, sets a framework to study and potentially develop rail links between the two nations.

This MoU outlines the exploration of technical and economic assessments to improve logistics networks, facilitate the movement of goods and cargo, and increase supply-chain efficiency. By focusing on streamlining cross-border transportation, the agreement seeks to create opportunities for closer economic ties between the neighboring countries.

In addition to the rail initiative, the agreement encompasses cooperation in electricity interconnection, including the exchange and sale of electricity. Feasibility studies will be conducted to evaluate the technical, economic, and environmental potential of expanding electricity links, which could lead to a more integrated energy infrastructure between the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

The MoU also emphasizes coordination with other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states, aiming to expand the regional electricity interconnection network. This initiative is expected to improve the efficiency of energy systems, foster regional cooperation, and support the long-term development of infrastructure across the Gulf region.

Overall, the agreement represents a significant step towards strengthening infrastructure integration and supporting trade efforts between the UAE and Saudi Arabia, with potential benefits extending across the broader GCC region.
