Sharjah-Oman Corridor Cuts Cargo Transit to Just 35 Days

by admin477351

Sharjah has introduced a new logistics corridor with Oman, dramatically cutting cargo transit times from nearly three months to just 35 days. This strategic initiative aims to enhance supply chain efficiency, reduce transportation expenses, and bolster trade connections between the UAE, Oman, and broader regional markets. The corridor links Sharjah with key Omani ports such as Sohar, Duqm, and Salalah, via the Khatmat Malaha and Al Madam border crossings. Officials anticipate that transit times will continue to improve as the system matures.

To incentivize the use of this new route, Sharjah has implemented toll exemptions for cargo trucks traveling on designated corridor paths from Oman. The plan also offers expedited customs clearance, streamlined cargo movement, and allows businesses to handle customs procedures at inland container terminals rather than at border points. Authorities project that logistics costs could be lowered by approximately 15%, contingent on the type of cargo and the specific transportation requirements involved.

The corridor, operational since May 14, facilitates cargo movement in both directions with support from coordinated customs operations, real-time data sharing, and special fast-track lanes for shipments. This development is expected to significantly benefit manufacturers by speeding up the transit of raw materials and finished goods. By strengthening its logistics infrastructure, Sharjah aims to solidify its role as a regional hub for logistics and manufacturing.

The emirate’s strategy focuses on boosting its competitive edge as a trade center, with more than 3,000 factories contributing about a quarter of its GDP. The improved logistics route is anticipated to enhance export capabilities and attract international investors interested in accessing markets across Africa, India, and Asia. This corridor is a key element in Sharjah’s broader plan to attract global business and investment by offering efficient and cost-effective logistical solutions.
